I Can Learn to Play the Guitar by Myself!
Sure you can learn by yourself! But you have to be ready to spend YEARS in that pursuit, struggling alone with frustration. I know: I did it for a long time. I was reading every book I could put my hands on, fishing for free lessons on the net, spending endless nights trying to learn my favorite riffs from tabs...
... but, try as I might, I was not progressing as much as I wanted to. Why? I learned the lesson the HARD way: to work and progress effectively you need to have a coherent, large scale PLAN. You need to know WHERE you want to go, and especially HOW to arrive there. This is what a teacher offers you! If it was only matter to know a couple of scales everyone would be a guitar hero.
I am talking to beginners especially here. Don't be fooled! Learning guitar by yourself is not easy! If you are frustrated, that's normal! Believe me, I've been there. I shared all the frustration you are experiencing now, and I found ways to overcome it. Give me a chance to help you.
Information is Only Half of the Battle
When working with me, you aren't paying just for mere INFORMATION. You can find all the information you want for free on the net! But this is useless if you don't know how to STRUCTURE and APPLY this information. With me you are paying for RESULTS!! That's all you care about, isn't it? Let me do all the legwork to decide HOW you will reach the results you want minimizing your frustration and maximizing your FUN.
Whether you want to learn to play acoustic guitar to sing at a campfire or become a blazing-fast lead guitarist, I'm here to help you. If you are serious in learning guitar, then don't hesitate, tell me about you and your goals!
Free Lesson
All new local students receive a free, no-string-attached private lesson of 30m. Your goal for this lesson is to see me in person and decide if I am the right teacher for you. My goal for this lesson is to know you better, who you are, what style you play, what results you want. From this little chat, and after hearing you playing a bit, we can decide what of the following teaching format suits you and your goals better. To receive your free lesson you just have to contact me.
Lesson Formats
Since the lesson format critically depends on your personal goals, I offer the following specific programs, each one geared toward a articular type of student:
- For people not living in the Edmonton zone, I offer webcam lessons. To set up an online lesson with me , just click here and tell me when you are available.
- For absolute beginners I offer introductory classes in both acoustic and electric guitar. These are easy slow-paced classes so that you can get some familiarity with the instrument. The goal of these classes is to have you play simple songs as soon as possible. If you have never touched an instrument before, these classes are for you.
- For intermediate acoustic players (who have finished the introductory class) I offer classes to polish your skills (it's not what you play, but HOW you play it!). Composition classes are available too if you desire to write you own songs.
- For electric guitarists that already have some knowledge (or have finished the introductory class) I offer classes that will introduce you to lead playing. In the same classes we will also cover some more advanced rhythmic concepts. This class is designed to make you able to play in a band or hold your ground in a jam session in the shortest possible amount of time.
- For more advanced electric guitarists I offer classes to help you greatly expand your skills and add some new tricks under your belt. You can supercharge your technical ability and/or expand your musical knowledge and originality.
Many guitar teachers offer only private lesson to their students. I think that a private lesson is a great format, but it's not the best for all the topics or all the people. In fact, it's one of the worst formats for the student (but the easier for the teacher... that's why most teachers do only private). Think about it... if it's the best format, why in music colleges or universities they don't teach exclusively private lessons? Also... how are you supposed to learn to play with others if you play only with the teacher?
A musician needs a certain environment to be stimulated. I found that the athmosphere of classes inspires the students to learn and apply their knowledge to music. You will not only learn to play but also establish connections with other students like you. Having other players around you will reinforce everything you learn, and will motivate you to learn and play even more!
On the first free lesson we will discuss the best format to suit you and your goals. Tuition will depend on the frequency and format of your lessons, contact me for more information.
What I Can Teach You
I teach electric and acoustic guitar for all rock based styles (classic, pop, heavy metal, blues, prog), for both rhythmic and lead guitar. I do NOT teach classical, jazz or folk styles (but I DO teach rock, pop, and blues on acoustic guitar). BEWARE of teachers that claim that they can teach "all styles" Here is a non-comprehensive list of areas we could work together on:
- Complete Beginners Basic
- Chords and Rhythm
- Improvisation
- Scales and Arpeggios (including Sweep Arpeggios)
- Music Theory
- Composition
- Efficient Practice Strategies
- Obtaining the Right Tone
- Ear Training
- Recording
If there is a particular topic that I didn't covered here you need help on or you're interested in, then just let me know.
In Other Words...
What if I could:
- boost your confidence in playing?
- speed up your learning?
- enhance your creativity?
- guide you step by step?
- make you have FUN in the whole process?
I am confident I can. Come and see for yourself.
