  • Did you just break a string on your guitar and you don't know what to do?
  • Your guitar sounds lifeless and you think it's time to change these 2-year old strings?
  • Are you tired of paying a luthier $40-$70 every time you need to change your strings?

We have the answer for you! Learn to change the strings on your guitar with our new Change Your Strings! seminar.

So, what's going to happen?

  • You are coming to the seminar with your guitar

  • We will give you instructions and tools (and yes, you get to keep the tools!)

  • Then we will guide you step-by-step through the whole procedure of changing string.

We don't just explain it for you, we SHOW it to you in person and then we have YOU doing it! This way when you come back home after the seminar you will retain the ability to change the strings by yourself. (Which is, after all, the whole point of the seminar!)

But Changing Strings it's Easy!

guitar string change

That's what everybody thinks - and in fact it's what I thought too for a long time.

I was really sure I knew everything about it... and yet every time that I wanted to change the strings it took me an hour to go through it. This was until one of my luthier friends showed me how professionals do it. It was an eye-opener! I also discovered that I was severely risking permanent damage to my guitar since I was doing it wrong!! (whooopsie-daisy...)

Of course you can find all the information online. With pictures, even! (IF you can find a trustworthy website done by a professional). So why should you pay and come to our seminar to have something that you can find online for free? Simply, because we are offering you things that you CANNOT find online!

  • We show you how to do it safely. We make sure that nothing you do can damage your guitar or harm yourself. Without the proper instructions it is very easy to scratch your guitar - or pierce your finger.
  • We show you how to do it efficiently. Why lose one hour of your time when you can do it in 10 minutes? It is just a matter of doing things in the correct order!
  • We show you how to do it on YOUR guitar. Different models of guitars have different systems to attach the strings to the bridge, and sometimes the nut is different too! We are there giving you instruction and guidance for your specific guitar!

Strings Included!

If this is your first time changing strings, chances are that you are not familiar with the tools you need for a string change. It's not rocket science, but the job is definitely easier with the right tools. We got this covered! At the seminar we will give you:

  • The right set of strings. Yes, we buy the strings for you! (If you have specific requirement or are a fanatic of a specific brant/type of strings, you are also welcome to bring your own!)
  • Safety goggles! It's important to protect your eyes. Especially if this is your first time.
  • Peg winders: a little nifty gadget that will save you lots of time when changing strings.

All this is included in the price of the seminar, and you get to keep all of it!

Note: if you want a very specific/exotic set of strings for your guitar, you will need to bring it with you. Then again, we do recommend to use standard strings if this is the first time you do change them.

BONUS: Fretboard Care

polishing guitar fretboard

Since during the seminar you are taking off the strings from your guitar, we will take the occasion to perform some fretboard maintenance. After all, it just makes sense to do it when the strings are out of the way!

  • We will show you how to polish your fretboard
  • We will also show you how to condition the fretboard with lemon oil (*)

All of this is simple and basic maintenance (that most people don't do!) that will preserve your fretboard, make it easier to play, and protect it from the harsh Alberta weather. You don't want any cracks on your fretboard, right?

(*)NOTE: Not all guitars require or accept lemon oil. For instance if your guitar has a maple neck, then the lemon oil is not necessary (or recommended). Of course, we will take care of identifying your guitar and to use the correct product for it.

BYOG (Bring Your Own Guitar)

This is a hands-on seminar. This means that with our help and guidance YOU will change the string on YOUR guitar. In this seminar we accept all types of guitar - electric, acoustic, classical. Basses are welcome too! So, whatever model you own and enjoy to play, we can help you with that. Just let us know what kind of guitar you plan to take at the seminar, so we can buy the right strings for you!

NOTE: If you have a vintage/rare/extremely valuable instrument, it is NOT a good idea to have your first try at changing strings on them. Bring your usual practice guitar instead!
